WordPress.com vs WordPress.org: which is right for your Australian business?

Why this confusion exists

WordPress started as a single open-source blogging platform. Over time it split into two distinct products that share the name and the underlying software but offer very different things. WordPress.org distributes the WordPress software itself — free to download, free to use. You install it on hosting you control. You modify the code if you want to.

When WordPress.com makes sense

WordPress.com is a reasonable choice for personal blogs, simple sites without commercial requirements, or situations where someone genuinely doesn't want to think about hosting at all. For a professional services business, retailer, or anyone using WooCommerce, the limitations quickly become constraints.
